TELFORD
HISTORY
Telford, named after the civil engineer Thomas Telford, is the largest town in Shropshire, and one of the largest growing town in the UK.
It was first designated as Dawley New Ton in 1968, but changed its name to Telford within the year.
In 2014, a new southern quarter was added to the Town Centre, to introduce more nightlife into the town.

The town bills itself as the birthplace of industry, due to it having Coalbrookdale and Ironbridge Gorge within its boundary as well as Granville country park, which is home to relics of the old coal mine.
These areas are internationally known to have significance to the industrial revolution and are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Telford holds many important landmarks, including the Ironbridge itself, the recently restored Lilleshall Monument, and the Wrekin.
